Quake II

Yes, this is an older game, but I've only recently started playing it. It's not as unique and creepy as the original Quake. That game, while limited in color palate, had the benefit of Trent Reznor's music/sounds and a truly creepy environment that never failed to produce the occasional surprised "AHKohmygawd" as well-placed creatures or traps suddenly appeared. Quake II on the other hand has the same limited color scheme and blocky creatures common to the Quake engine. The environment is still one of your greatest obstacles with tricks and traps and secrets galore, but with a few exceptions they just aren't as creative as one would hope from the series that "started it all." It's a good game for when you want to waste some time shooting at things. The gruesome deaths of your enemies twitching or gasping or pulling off a couple of death-throughs shots makes for a both disturbing and amusing experience that is not recommended for the weak of heart, where flying gibs will suffice.
