Nickel Creek - "Nickel Creek" This self-named album is very surprising! While it's classified as "country," it's Ameri-Irish folk/bluegrass tracks do not sound like Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks, or Lyle Lovitt type of country. With nary a twang or a steel guitar, this extremely talented and young three-some have original heartfelt songs as well as new renditions of a couple Irish folk songs. Their voices (Chris and Sara share lead vocal duties) are as beautiful as their textured instrumentation. The mood of the album is generally somber and wistful, with moments of celebration.
