The Red Violin

I hope to expand this review into a full article instead of a quickie, but I had to get some thoughts out quickly. An incredibly beautiful, striking film full of passion and life. It tells the story of a violin with a special creation and prophesized fate as it passes through 400 years of owners with various ends. It's sad, it's joyful, it's tragic, it's suspenseful, and best of all it's all done so sincerely and genuinely! The performances are masterful and the script creative. It uses back-flashes to different periods in time while another story is being presenting in the present that ties all the pasts together. The movie plays like a collection of short stories with a common theme that ties them together, so we get compact gems of fiction like a short story is meant to be, with their own little climaxes prior to a final suspenseful ending. See it, see it again, own it.
