A farcical comedy with more intelligence than "There's Something About Mary." Your basic story of the boyfriend going to meet the girl's parents, but it's the actors and continuously escalating situations that makes this movie. Robert DeNiro is perfect as the straight-man dad. Who'd have ever thought after "Mean Streats" and "Taxi Driver" this man could be so good in comedy? And of course Ben Stiller rides the line between loveable and annoying in just the right way to be funny as the goof-ball hero that tries so hard to be good, but fails so miserably. One of the best scenes is a car race between Stiller and DeNiro to get back to the house to hide evidence, but with a very unexpected hilariously believable twist.
This makes for a good date movie or light hearted fare. Pay matinee price if you can.
