Last Call! You Don’t Have to Go To The Polls But You Can’t Stay Here….

Posted by CelticBear on 30th October 2004

Before I go babbling, well, pasting my babble here from Notepad, I have to admit I realize I’m misspelling alQueida pretty badly…I’m just too lazy, er…busy to correct it. So, deal. =)

I can’t wait until after Tuesday when I can find different stuff to bother blogging about. If Bush is elected, it’ll likely be about Canadian weather. ;)
I’m so glad that when we were so close to capturing bin Laden in Afghanistan, Bush and Rumsfield diverted the forces to wage war against the oh so dangerous Iraq.
Because we need bin Laden, the head of the terrorist organization behing 9/11 hanging around…
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/10/29/binladen.tape/index.html
The Bush strategy has done so much to make us all safer from terrorism and violence by occupying Iraq…
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/10/29/japan.hostage/index.html
We’re so much “safer” now that we’re even MORE bullying ourselves into Middle East affairs.
Oh, and it’s such a good thing that we’ve done so much damage to alQueida, have all but eliminated them (see 1st link) because no one will come and take their place (see 2nd link.)

For the sarcasm impared, let me put it this way: Instead of capturing the man responsible for 9/11 and the largest most dangerous terrorist organization in the world, Bush uses deception and lies to occupy a country that was no threat to us.

“I am truly not that concerned about him.”
- G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden’s whereabouts,
3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)
http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/2002/11/13_Laden.html

Meanwhile in Iraq, insurgents kill more soldiers, and behead more innocent people, and the next binLaden and alQueida get stronger and more support among the people we’re handing “freedom” to.
And let’s not forget that for every alQueida leader we kill or capture, another takes his place. alQueida is no weaker than it was before…that’s the nature of cell organized terrorist organizations that base their principles on zealotry. The more we interfere in the Middle East and overthrow nations the more we’re hated by Middle Easterners in general and fanatic terrorists even more.

A couple of years ago, Bush takes all focus away from capturing the man responsible for the terrorist attacks on the US, both Trade Center attacks, the bombing on the Cole, the most wanted man in the world. Then goes to invade a country that posed us no real threat, giving a multi-billion dollar contract to a Texas oil company the Vice President was CEO of, and interestingly the Secretary of Defence used to be the US envoy to Iraq under Reagan. Meanwhile, in addition to binLaden still hanging around, there’s the country of Iran next door that has an open and unsecret nuclear weapons program.
They admit it, it’s no secret, but we completely leave them alone, and instead invade a country that has nothing. You don’t think Bush monarchy, dynasty, I mean, legacy might have anything to do with the decision, no?

I’m a staunch Libertarian. So much so, that I ALMOST am an advocate of market anarchy. And yet, I urge as many people as possible to vote Kerry this Tuesday. Even though the Democratic party tends to be in favor of even bigger government than the Republicans, because it’s vital we get the criminal, deluded, idiot Bush out of the White House. No matter how much Kerry and the Democrats are a part of big government, it’s more important for our safety and security and liberties and freedoms to get Bush, Cheney, and Ashcroft out of the White House.
If the Bush adninistration stays in power, and continues to rape our rights with things such as the Patriot Act, Constitutional amendment attempts trying to legislate their morality, and their admitted belief that it’s OK to hold a person indefinitely and without being charged with a crime, then we won’t have enough of the Constitution still around to fight for the Libertarian cause.

Normally I would urge you to vote Libertarian, but I would just as well have you vote Kerry. True, the lesser of two evils is still evil, but sometimes you have to make a deal with the devil in order to stay around long enough to get some good done. Or something like that. =)

So please, anyone who reads this, get out and vote Tuesday! Our lives, our freedom depends on it. Don’t give up your God given right to freedom and liberty for a false sense of security and deception.

Thanks for listening. I now yield the floor to opposing opinions. =)

Libertarian for Liberties, not Ideology

Posted by CelticBear on 13th October 2004

So I started this newsgroup thread, asking for any “Libertarian for Kerry” promotional material, if it exists. What ensued has been a silly arguement.

So I last posted the following, which I feel is an OK monologue to recopy in here. =) So…

I AM a libertarian, little “l”. I believe consenting adults should be able to do what they want in the privacy of their own home. And even outside the home, rights and liberties should not be taken away from people who are living their lives as they see fit if it does not infringe upon the rights of others.
I believe in the Constitution, most importantly, the 10th Amendment which expresses the purpose of the government: Self government by the individual except where absolutely necessary. And that Amendment and the Constitution in general has been wholesale raped. Our government has become unwieldy and overbearing and while it may still be one of the top 5 most free countries in the world, it’s a far cry from the government intended by the Founding Fathers. I believe it’s gotten o the point where literal revolution may be the only thing that will bring the country back to “by the people, for the people,” except it’s gotten so big that even the right to revolt is no longer possible.

As far as Libertarian, big “L”, I may not be and I don’t care. If someone asks me if I’m Republican or Democrat, I tell them I’m Libertarian because that party for the most part values my own beliefs, but I’m not a card carrying, petition signing, sign waving member of the Party. So don’t give me this “awkward phase” carp. What I am, is a Realist.
Instead of debating political philosophy in some fantasy world, I live in the real world. I vote for Libertarians in small elections where they could, and sometimes DO, actually win! But I realize that a Libertarian president is not possible any time in the near future. Foreseeable future in fact. So I could wine and cry and b17ch and moan about 3rd-part this and that, but the fact of the matter is THAT is “hogwash”. I don’t know what it’s going to take to get a 3rd party serious potential to win a presidential election, but it’s going to take a slow evolution, that’s for sure. Even if every single person who claims to be l/Libertarian were to vote for a 3rd party, that person will still not even come close to winning.
So, in the meantime, I vote how it matters. And yes, I do believe that pretty much any presidential election since 1972 would have been perfectly fine to vote ideology and vote Libertarian. Even not knowing what we know now, the last election was an OK time. And if Kerry wins next month, the 2008 election will likely be an OK time to vote Libertarian.
But right now, this election, our rights and liberties are at a greater threat than they ever have been it you would have to be a completely sheltered ivory tower elitist with no sense of reality and no feet on the ground to not see it! This administration has done more to take away our rights than any other. We’re one step away from martial law! Do you not realize that this administration has made it legal for any law agency to secretly subpoena private records on an individual and require that the individual not be told? For example, from libraries and Internet service providers? And not for terrorism investigation, but for “any ongoing criminal investigation.” That Cheney and Ashcroft have as much as admitted that they feel it’s OK for the Executive branch to hold people indefinitely and without charge if they deem it necessary. And we’re talking even US citizens not connected to any terrorist threat. This administration is doing exactly what the Hitler “administration” did prior to WWII. Using terrorism as an excuse to take away rights, keep people in fear, justify lies and deception. This administration has had more overt attempts to modify the Constitution to fit their own “moral” agenda than any other, at least since prohibition. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Even so, it’s more of a threat to every citizen than any other administration has ever been. And I would think any and every l/Libertarian would be up in arms over it! It takes a person truly blinded by ideology to not see what’s going on.

“The two candidates no different from each other”? That’s perfect evidence of this blindness. No, Kerry is not Mr. Perfect, he’s not the Savior, he’s not even likely going to come close to being The Best Possible President. But if you can’t see the difference between him and Bush, you’re living in a fantasy world.
Bush will follow his lies and mistakes straight to his and our graves. He sticks by his decisions no matter how wrong they may be, or shown to be later. He believes that any decention in his “message” is tantamount to unpatriotism. (Sound like fascism?) He’s turned the most prosperous country with the biggest economic surplus ever and lowest unemployment, into the biggest deficit and highest job loss. Kerry wants to balance the budget and tax the rich. Yeah, yeah, so he’s still a big-government tax-n-spender, but so was Clinton. And under him we at least had the best economy for the individual since the 1950’s. Kerry wants to repair the international damage Bush has done, and wants to get us out of Iraq despite what the oil companies want. There’s a few differences.
I may be in an “awkward phase” (whatever) but it takes an immature ideologue to not see reality and group all of “them” into one group and call them all bad. There are shades of gray, and we live in a time when it’ll be better for all of us to live under a lighter gray than the shade we’re under now. Sure, it’d be a nice utopia if we could elect the perfect libertarian candidate, wouldn’t it? (Ever look up the origin of the word “utopia”?) But it’s not. So the best we can do for liberty and freedom is to get rid of its enemy.

After all, isn’t THAT the purpose of the libertarian? To do acts, make change, do what’s possible to fight for liberties and rights, and not for some political ideology? I may be in an “awkward phase” (hogwash) but at least I feel like I’m DOING something with my beliefs instead of sitting in an ivory tower and talking about how things “should be” while indirectly contributing to the continued erosion of the liberties we give lip service to!!

Thank you for listening.

An Example of Fascism At Work

A small example, but a telling one.
Although it’s a report done by the “liberal media” so take it how you will.

(I can’t wait for the election so I can find something else to rile me up enough to blog. If Bush wins, it may be about the weather in Canada….)

Another Death To Prove “We’re Safer” Now

Posted by CelticBear on 8th October 2004

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1323060,00.html
The British hostage that was held with the two murdered Americans was found beheaded.

Now, let me get this straight.
Before the invasion Iraq had no WMD and no ties to AlQuida, and since the invasion we’re now even more hated by fundamental Muslem fanatics, and targeted by terrorists even more, we’ve had hundreds of solders and civilains killed in Iraq SINCE the “war ended,” and we’ve lost the respect of the international community and the aid from past allies.
Yet, we’re now safer because of the invasion?
How’s that work?

Yeah! The proletariat has broken into space!

Posted by CelticBear on 4th October 2004

http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/10/04/spaceshipone.attempt.cnn/index.html
The X-Prize has been won, and the door has been opened for commercial, civilian space flight!

Oh, we’re still decades away from from interplanetary travel…perhaps many decades. And maybe even a century away from regular civilians entering space for less than $100K. However, the posibilities of newer orbiting space stations, lunal stations, asteroid mining, Mars exploration, will only accelerate. We may see a day in my lifetime when ordinary union workers will be flown into space to work on asteroid mining or scientists going into orbiting stations or to the moon on a regular basis.

Altough, the length of time between the Wright Brothers 1st flight and the hundreds of airplanes used in arial battles in WWI seems rediculously short. And from WWII to the fighter planes of WWII and jets of the Korean War to space travel by 1969…the jumps of evolution of space travel may be just as dramatic.

Even if I never have the chance to travel into space, even low Earth orbit, it’s still very exciting!

No Comment…No Comment…

Well, I turned off comments again. MT-Blacklist, either because I installed it incorrectly or because of some internal flaws, it’s still not working like it did before I upgraded MoveableType. So I’m still getting flooded with comment spam.
