The Audacity of Dictator Bush

As the administration grabs more and more power for the Executive Branch, and the religious oligarchy gets more control, we find out that they have acquired the phone records of hundreds of millions of American citizens.

NSA has massive database of Americans’ phone calls

bush recently made a staement about this program. Here are some hilights:

First, our intelligence activities strictly target al Qaeda and their known affiliates. Al Qaeda is our enemy, and we want to know their plans.

OK, blatant BS. They have and are collecting the records of hundreds of millions of innocent American citizens. How the hell is that targeting Al Qaeda? The civil liberties, our unenalienable rights, as humans and American citizens are beling viloated without oversight, without check and balance. And for what purpose? Are we supposed to just trust this president after lying to us and deceiving us into an illegal war for oil that they will use this information for only anti-Al Qaeda purposes? This administration that has shown time and again they don’t have any respect for American citizens, they lie to us constantly and do everything in their power to create political and ideological wedges and walls. They have obvious corporate interests above the interests of the people. We’re supposed to just trust them?

the intelligence activities I authorized are lawful and have been briefed to appropriate members of Congress, both Republican and Democrat.

Yeah, last time I heard that it was regarding the international calls that were being tapped without court approval. And Congressmen were saying “Uhm, no, we haven’t been briefed, thank you.” Haven’t heard what they’ve had to say about it yet, but I’m sure (hoping) that Monday when people are back in offices, there will be some talk.

Fourth, the privacy of ordinary Americans is fiercely protected in all our activities. We’re not mining or trolling through the personal lives of millions of innocent Americans. Our efforts are focused on links to al Qaeda and their known affiliates.

Lies lies lies! I can not believe for one second that this administration that is rife with bribery, lobbyist scandals, corporate ownerships lackeyism, scorched-earth personal attacks lead by Carl Rove, privatization of government programs to the point that they are useless money makers for the corporations with Republican ties that now control them, that this information won’t be used for political or corporate purposes.

Cheney has a secret meeting with leaders on oil companies who nearly every upper level member of the administration including Condoleza Rice have stock ownership of, and days later the administration releases an energy plan that greatly benefits the oil companies and financially benefits these companies and the administration. They have used personal smear campaigns against political opponents. They leak information that destroys the usefulness of CIA assets in Iran in order to seek revenge on people who refute what they claim. Can we really trust this administration to have our best interests?

So far, we’ve been very successful in preventing another attack on our soil.

Really? maybe. But you know, we didn’t have these programs without oversight and checks and balances back in 2003, and yet we had all the information we needed on the 9/11 hijackers before 9/11. The problem wasn’t the lack of information, it was lack of people from FBI management on up to listen to the information we have and pay attention to it. When bush was being briefed about Al Qaeda during the Clinton/bush transition, he was warned of plans for using planes as missiles. An Arizona FBI agent had information on Middle Eastern men who were taking flying lessons but not interested in learning how to land. They had their addresses. No need to violate the privacy of millions of innocent American citizens. Just the need to act.

As a general matter, every time sensitive intelligence is leaked, it hurts our ability to defeat this enemy. Our most important job is to protect the American people from another attack, and we will do so within the laws of our country.

Like when you leak information for personal and political revenge against people who public refute your lies?

According the Constitution and the people who created this country they “lead,” their most important task is to protect the Constitution in its intent and ideals. In protecting America and all that it stands for, they must protect liberty and freedom and right to privacy or else their words and deeds are meaningless.

The terrorists win when we have a country that becomes less and less what people fought and died to create. When one party, one branch of government has so much unbalanced and un checked power, the terrorists have won and America has died.

“The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment”.
–Robert Maynard Hutchins (American educator)

If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom; and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money that it values more, it will lose that, too.
– Somerset Maugham

There are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by the gradual and silent encroachment of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpation.
– James Madison
