Over on Debunking Christianity, there’s an interesting article from a former devoted Christian:

in which he points up one of the many seeds of doubt the Bible itself implanted in him.

I like this quote from it: (emphasis mine)

It is an open secret of many “Bible Believing” churches that only a small percentage of their members study the Bible with any degree of interest (see Dallas Willard in “Hearing God”). In retrospect, it seems that actually reading the Bible forces the Christian to deal with the division they have placed in their own minds. It is easier to proclaim belief and ignore the teaching of the Bible when you don’t actually read the Bible.

    Very interesting. I’ve had some discussions with folks lately which highlight this cunundrum. Another post on another blog I read recently discussed transubstantion. Start telling all the Christians you know that you’ve been reading about this religion that is based on cannibalism. Followers of it practice ritual flesh eating and blood drinking. Take note of their reactions.

    What’s ironic, is religious historians by and large believe that the story of Abraham comes from an ancient Canaanite myth which tells of the transition of the Canaanite people from evolving from a human sacrifice culture to animal sacrifice.
    And then here 5 or 6,000 years later the Christian religion springs up and brings back the barbaric theme of human sacrifice and blood drinking.
