“All of space and time is able to ripple.” — Dr. Pamela L. Gay
A FANTASTIC podcast: The Astronomy Cast
The latest episode: Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity
If you want to understand the Theory of Relativity explained to the ordinary lay-person and don’t have a copy of Stephen Hawking’s “A Brief History of Time“, listen to this podcast! (The whole series is a fantastic source of information for the ordinary person, non-scientist in explaining all kinds of astro-physical topics.)
Some of the topics addressed in this edition:
The fact that science predicted decades ago that large bodies actually effect and ripple the fabric of time and space…and it’s been recently proven.
How gravity and velocity are interchangeable, and the gravity we feel is actually the effect of the velocity on our bodies as we (try to) fall along the bend in space that the Earth creates. (Also proven.)
And, how science doesn’t claim to know everything, regardless of what anti-scientists try to characterize scientists, and admit when they don’t know something or are willing to change the theories that explain reality as more and new information rolls in (unlike religious ideologues who say that have one answer for everything and cling to it with a deathgrip despite changing data and new information and evolving collection of knowledge.)
